Frequently Asked Questions
How often should I get my lift serviced?
To ensure your lift runs safely, smoothly, and efficiently, it’s important to have it serviced regularly by a qualified technician. At Aussie Lifts, we recommend servicing every 12 months for residential lifts and every 6 months for commercial lifts, in line with Australian Standards and manufacturer requirements. Regular lift maintenance helps prevent unexpected breakdowns, extends the life of your lift, and ensures all safety features—such as emergency lowering systems, door locks, and communication devices—are working correctly. For commercial properties, more frequent servicing is required due to higher usage and compliance obligations under workplace safety regulations. Our fully licensed technicians perform comprehensive inspections and testing on every service, including mechanical, electrical, and safety systems. We also provide a detailed service report for your records. If your lift shows signs of unusual noise, slow operation, or door issues between scheduled visits, contact us for a prompt inspection. In summary: Residential lifts: Service every 12 months Commercial lifts: Service every 6 months Always use a licensed lift service provider Regular servicing keeps your lift safe, reliable, and compliant—protecting both your investment and your peace of mind.
How much are the servicing costs for my lift?
The cost of servicing your lift depends on several factors, including the type of lift, its application (residential or commercial), and the location of your property. At Aussie Lifts, our professional servicing starts from $499 (incl. GST) for a standard residential lift within the Brisbane region. Commercial lift servicing is generally more frequent and detailed, with costs varying based on the number of floors, accessibility, and usage patterns. For rural or interstate locations, travel and accommodation charges may apply. Every service includes a comprehensive safety inspection, lubrication and adjustment of mechanical components, and testing of electrical and emergency systems. We provide a detailed service report outlining the work completed and any recommendations for ongoing maintenance or repairs. Regular servicing not only ensures your lift remains compliant with Australian Standards (AS1735) but also helps extend its lifespan and reduce the risk of costly breakdowns. For a personalised quote, contact our friendly team with your lift model and location details — we’ll provide a fixed price before any work begins. Typical pricing: from $499
Can we put a Service Agreement in place for our lift?
Yes — at Aussie Lifts, we offer Preventative Maintenance Agreements (PMAs) that provide ongoing peace of mind and cost savings for lift owners. Our PMAs are fixed-term service agreements designed to keep your lift operating safely, efficiently, and in full compliance with Australian Standards. Customers who choose a PMA receive a 20% discount on standard servicing costs, plus priority scheduling and consistent maintenance from our qualified technicians who know your lift’s history. These agreements are ideal for both residential and commercial properties, ensuring your lift is serviced on time and any potential issues are addressed before they become costly repairs. For regional clients, we often coordinate service runs that group nearby customers together. This allows us to reduce travel costs, making regular servicing more affordable without compromising quality or reliability. A PMA ensures your lift remains in top condition, helps maintain compliance with warranty and safety requirements, and provides predictable maintenance costs for easier budgeting. Contact our team today to discuss a Preventative Maintenance Agreement tailored to your lift type, usage, and location. It’s the simplest and most cost-effective way to protect your investment.
Do you service all types of lifts?
At Aussie Lifts, we focus on providing the highest level of service and reliability by specialising in the products we know best. We only service lifts manufactured by Aussie Lifts and a select range of trusted international brands, including Swift, Barduva, Bruno, Vestner, and Area Lifting. Our technicians are factory-trained and have extensive experience working with these specific lift systems. This ensures that every service is carried out to manufacturer standards using the correct procedures and high-quality parts. By focusing on selected brands, we can guarantee faster response times, reliable spare parts availability, and superior product knowledge — giving our customers the best possible outcome every time. If you own a lift outside these brands and are struggling to find a service provider or source replacement parts from overseas, we can still help. Aussie Lifts offers a lift controls upgrade service, allowing older or unsupported systems to be modernised with locally available components that meet current Australian Standards. Contact our team to find out if your lift is covered under our service program or to learn more about our control system upgrade options.
What is the service life of a lift?
The service life of a lift depends on its design, usage, environment, and maintenance history. Generally, if a lift is regularly maintained by qualified technicians, you can expect it to last 20 years or more before major modernisation may be required. At Aussie Lifts, our lifts are engineered for Australian conditions using durable materials and quality components, helping extend their lifespan well beyond two decades with proper care. Routine servicing — including lubrication, safety checks, and software updates — plays a crucial role in preventing wear and ensuring the lift continues to operate safely and smoothly. Commercial lifts may experience higher usage and therefore require more frequent servicing and occasional part replacements to maintain reliability. Residential lifts, on the other hand, often see lighter use and can easily exceed 20 years of service when maintained annually. When your lift approaches the end of its service life, we can provide upgrade and modernisation options to extend its usability, improve energy efficiency, and bring it up to the latest safety standards. Regular servicing is the key to a long, safe, and reliable lift lifespan — protecting both your investment and your passengers.
Will part’s always be available for my lift?
One of the major advantages of choosing Aussie Lifts is our Australian-based manufacturing and local parts availability. We hold a wide range of spare parts across our Brisbane, Sydney, Melbourne, and South Australia locations, ensuring fast turnaround times for maintenance and repairs. If a specific component isn’t in stock, our in-house engineering team can custom manufacture replacement parts within just a few days, significantly reducing downtime and keeping your lift running smoothly. This capability sets us apart from many imported lift brands that often face long delays or discontinued parts soon after the warranty period ends. We’re proud to support lifts that have been in service for over 25 years, and we continue to stock or manufacture parts for these models. Our focus on locally built and supported products ensures long-term reliability and peace of mind for all our customers. When you invest in an Aussie Lifts product, you’re investing in a lift that’s built, serviced, and supported right here in Australia, with a commitment to keeping your lift operational for decades to come — not just during the warranty period.
Will my lift phone be compatible with NBN?
With the rollout of the NBN (National Broadband Network), many traditional landline services are being phased out — and standard lift emergency phones may no longer work reliably, especially during a power outage. The NBN is not guaranteed to operate in a blackout, which means a lift phone connected to the old copper line may fail when it’s needed most. Under Australian law, all lift emergency phones must be “safe to operate”, meaning they must function at all times, including during power failures. To stay compliant and ensure passenger safety, lift owners are required to install a compliant communication solution before the NBN is connected in their area. At Aussie Lifts, we offer an approved solution known as a Gateway Device. This device is installed inside your lift’s machine cabinet and operates via a SIM card and antenna, allowing the emergency phone to work independently of the NBN or landline. Our team can supply and install this system to ensure your lift remains fully operational, compliant, and safe — even when the power or internet goes down. Contact us to discuss your lift phone upgrade options before your area switches to the NBN.
Are some lifts GST exempt?
Yes — under current Australian Tax Office (ATO) rulings, certain lifts may qualify for GST exemption when they are designed and installed specifically to assist people with limited mobility or disabilities. Lifts that comply with Australian Standards AS1735 Parts 14, 15, 16, and 17 — which cover low-rise platform lifts, stair lifts, and vertical transport solutions for people with disabilities — are generally GST-free when supplied for personal use by someone with a qualifying medical condition. To be eligible, you’ll need to provide either: A medical certificate or statement from a registered health professional confirming that the lift is required to assist with mobility, or Documentation verifying that the lift is being installed for disability access in accordance with accessibility requirements. At Aussie Lifts, many of our residential and accessibility products are designed to meet these standards, making them eligible for GST exemption. Our team can guide you through the process and supply the necessary documentation to support your claim. This exemption can represent significant savings while ensuring your home or building remains safe, accessible, and compliant with Australian mobility standards.
Are you able to supply a custom-sized elevator?
Yes — at Aussie Lifts, we specialise in designing and manufacturing custom-sized elevators to meet your specific requirements. Because we build our lifts right here in Australia, we have full control over the design and production process, allowing us to customise cabin sizes, door configurations, and shaft dimensions to suit your space and accessibility needs. Whether you’re working with an existing building, a tight installation area, or specific architectural requirements, our in-house engineering team can design a lift solution that fits perfectly — without compromising on safety, performance, or style. Customisation options include: Tailored car sizes to maximise available space Door widths and heights adjusted for accessibility A wide range of finishes, flooring, and lighting choices Compatibility with both residential and commercial applications Every custom lift is built in compliance with the AS1735 Australian Standards, ensuring long-term safety and reliability. By choosing an Aussie-built, custom-sized lift, you’re investing in a locally supported product designed specifically for your property — not a one-size-fits-all import. Contact our team to discuss your project and we’ll create a lift solution tailored to your exact needs.
How do I organise a quote?
Getting a quote from Aussie Lifts is simple and personalised to your project needs. We start with a friendly phone consultation to discuss your specific requirements — including your property type, intended use, and any existing plans. From there, we can arrange a site visit or invite you to one of our showrooms to explore our range of lift products in person. During this process, our experienced sales consultants will: Review your building plans or site layout Explain the product options best suited to your application — residential, small commercial, disability access, or goods lifts Outline compliance and design considerations in accordance with Australian Standards Provide tailored advice on lift size, location, and aesthetic options (such as finishes, doors, and lighting) Discuss environmental factors, including wind engineering for external lifts and corrosion protection for coastal installations We pride ourselves on being honest and transparent — if your project requires a product outside our range, we’ll happily recommend other reputable suppliers who can assist. To get started, contact our team or submit an enquiry online, and we’ll guide you step-by-step through the quoting process to find the ideal lift solution for your property.
Can you quote from my plans?
Yes — at Aussie Lifts, we can provide an accurate quote directly from your building plans. Simply send us your architectural or design drawings, and our experienced team will review them to identify the most suitable lift model, size, and configuration for your project. As part of our service, we also offer free engineering drawings that can be shared with your architect, builder, or engineer to help integrate the lift design seamlessly into your plans. These detailed drawings include shaft dimensions, pit and headroom requirements, and electrical specifications to ensure everything fits perfectly before construction begins. One important detail we always discuss is your Finished Floor Level (FFL) — this is the final height of your completed floor surface, including tiles, carpet, or timber. Accounting for FFL ensures your lift floor sits perfectly level with the surrounding floor, resulting in a smooth and professional installation. Whether your project is residential, commercial, or accessibility-based, our team will guide you through every stage — from quoting and design to final installation — ensuring your lift fits flawlessly into your space.
What is the process to install a lift in my home?
At Aussie Lifts, we make the lift installation process simple and stress-free — guiding you from design to handover with clear communication at every step. Consultation & Design – We start by discussing your specific needs and reviewing your site or building plans. Once the design is finalised, we’ll prepare a detailed proposal and quotation, outlining the best product options for your home. Deposit & Manufacturing – When you’re ready to proceed, we issue an initial deposit/manufacturing invoice to secure your lift in our manufacturing schedule. Typical delivery times are around 10 weeks from receipt of payment. Project Coordination – During this period, you’ll be introduced to our projects team, who will handle all communication regarding site requirements, builder coordination, and installation planning. Installation & Commissioning – Once we’ve completed the final site inspection, we’ll confirm installation dates. Our qualified installers will be onsite for 2–5 days, depending on the model. Handover & Ongoing Support – After commissioning, our team will conduct a full handover and user training session, followed by an introduction to our servicing team for ongoing maintenance and support. From start to finish, we ensure your lift installation is efficient, compliant, and built to last.
Do you actually manufacture lifts?
Yes — Aussie Lifts has proudly manufactured lifts in Brisbane since 1995. As one of Australia’s longest-running local lift manufacturers, we design, build, and assemble our products right here in Queensland, ensuring exceptional quality, reliability, and after-sales support. By manufacturing locally, we maintain strict quality control, shorter lead times, and the ability to customise lifts to suit your specific site requirements — something imported products often can’t offer. We partner with leading international component suppliers such as Fermator (doors), Blain Hydraulics (valves), and Settima (pumps), while also supporting local Australian industries for fabrication, electrical, and finishing work. This combination ensures every Aussie Lift meets the highest safety and performance standards. When you choose Aussie Lifts, you’re not only investing in a high-quality, Australian-made product — you’re also supporting local manufacturing, local jobs, and the Australian economy. Our commitment to local production allows us to deliver faster turnaround times, better parts availability, and ongoing service support for the life of your lift — making Aussie Lifts a trusted name in Australian-built accessibility and home lift solutions.
Is a home lift an affordable option for me?
Absolutely. Home lifts are no longer a luxury reserved for high-end homes — they’re now an affordable and practical solution for everyday Australian households. At Aussie Lifts, our motto is “Stay in the home you love,” and that’s exactly what our products are designed to help you do. If you’re concerned about stairs or future mobility, installing a lift can often be more cost-effective than relocating. When you consider real estate fees, stamp duty, moving costs, and the emotional toll of leaving your home, a lift becomes a smart long-term investment. It not only provides convenience and safety but also adds value to your property. For developers and builders, including a lift in new home designs can significantly broaden your potential buyer market — appealing to retirees, multi-generational families, and accessibility-conscious buyers. Homes with lifts also tend to attract premium sale prices due to their added comfort and functionality. With flexible design options, short lead times, and local manufacturing, Aussie Lifts makes home lifts an affordable way to future-proof your lifestyle and increase your home’s value.
Does Aussie Lifts complete building works?
No — Aussie Lifts does not carry out building works directly, but with over 7,000 lift installations across Australia, we’ve partnered with some of the best builders in the industry. We can recommend experienced builders who specialise in lift shaft construction and site preparation, ensuring your project is completed to the highest standard. If you already have a builder or architect managing your project, our team will work closely alongside them. We provide detailed technical drawings, shaft requirements, and installation specifications to make the process as smooth and efficient as possible. This collaboration ensures that your lift is installed correctly, safely, and in compliance with Australian Standards (AS1735). From residential retrofits to new commercial developments, we coordinate with your building team to ensure the site is ready for delivery, installation, and commissioning — on time and with minimal disruption. In short, while we don’t handle the building works ourselves, we’ll guide and support your builder every step of the way, ensuring a seamless installation experience and a lift that performs perfectly from day one.
Do you install external lifts?
Yes — Aussie Lifts specialises in external lift installations, and our products are specifically designed and engineered to perform in Australia’s tough outdoor conditions. Our external lifts feature a modular aluminium shaft structure that is engineered and certified for cyclonic wind conditions up to C3, making them ideal for installations across all regions, including coastal and high-wind zones. The durable aluminium construction offers excellent corrosion resistance, ensuring long-term reliability and minimal maintenance. Because our lifts are pre-constructed and modular, they can be craned into position and installed in as little as one day, dramatically reducing site disruption and construction time. This makes them a perfect choice for schools, commercial sites, modular buildings, and mining camps where speed, safety, and durability are essential. Each lift is designed and built in our Brisbane manufacturing facility, ensuring compliance with Australian Standards (AS1735) and offering the flexibility to customise cabin size, finishes, and access points to suit your site layout. If you’re looking for a fast, weather-resistant, and fully compliant lift solution, Aussie Lifts’ external modular systems are the proven choice for both residential and commercial applications.
