Project overview

A custom Orion for a tight commercial shaft

Burleigh Pavilion, Gold Coast, Queensland

Burleigh Pavilion sits on the Gold Coast foreshore, and putting a lift into a working venue is a different job from putting one into a new house. The shaft was tight, the structure was already there, and the lift had to fit both.

The answer was a custom Orion, built in Brisbane at Aussie Lifts and installed into that existing shaft. This is commercial work: a venue lift for public access, not a home lift.

If you are planning a commercial lift for a venue, club or fit-out with similar constraints, this is the kind of brief the Orion is built for.

The brief

Fit a commercial lift into Burleigh Pavilion where the shaft was tight and the building already stood. The venue needed the lift; the structure was not going to be rebuilt around one.

What we installed

A custom Orion, manufactured at our Brisbane factory and installed into the existing shaft. The Orion is the commercial model we build for venues and clubs when a standard residential lift will not do.

Key points

  • Model: Orion (custom)
  • Application: commercial venue, Burleigh Pavilion
  • Shaft: tight, in existing structure
  • Built: Aussie Lifts, Brisbane

Why a custom Orion

Commercial venues rarely have a clean empty shaft waiting. When the opening is tight and the building is already finished, the lift has to be designed around what is there. That is ordinary Orion work for us.

Built in Brisbane, made to fit

Because we build the Orion ourselves at our Brisbane factory, we could make this one to suit the Pavilion's existing shaft rather than asking the venue to change its building. That is the advantage of working with the people who make the lift: the size is set by the site, not by a catalogue. You can watch the install in the video on this page.
