Wheelchair platform lifts for homes

A few steps at the front door, a verandah or a split level can be the thing that keeps someone from moving freely around their own home. A wheelchair platform lift solves that without the length of a long ramp or the building work of a full home lift.

For homes we offer two platform lifts:

  • Discovery Residential. A wheelchair platform lift with up to 2m of travel and a 400kg capacity, suited to landings, verandahs and split-level homes. It can be installed inside or outside the house.
  • Low Up. A compact, Swedish-engineered lift for short rises of up to 0.5m, such as a step or two. It carries 250kg, needs no pit and runs on a standard 230V single phase supply.

If you only need access for a while, for example after surgery or during a renovation, the Mobilift is a portable platform lift you can hire.

As a registered NDIS provider, we can supply the quote and details your OT needs for funding. Read more on our NDIS registered supplier page.

Outdoor platform lifts in Australia

Many of the homes we work in have their steps outside: up to the front porch, onto a raised deck or down to the carport. For outdoor access, the Discovery Residential is the platform lift we recommend. It is rated for internal and external installation, with up to 2m of travel, which covers most entry stairs and verandahs.

Low Up for a few steps or a split level; Discovery for larger outdoor rises.

Tell us where the lift will sit, how high the rise is and whether it will be exposed to the weather, and we will tell you what the site needs before you commit.

What affects the cost of a wheelchair platform lift

Every platform lift we quote is priced to the home it is going into. The main things that move wheelchair platform lift prices in Australia are:

  • The height of the rise. A step or two suits the Low Up. Higher landings and verandahs need the Discovery Residential.
  • Inside or outside. An outdoor lift needs a suitable base and protection from the weather.
  • Site preparation. A level, solid base, power to the lift and any changes to railings or paths. Building works are done by your builder.
  • Platform size and options. Gates, doors and finishes chosen to suit the user and the space.
  • Hire or buy. For short-term needs, hiring a Mobilift can make more sense than buying.
  • Funding. A lift supplied for a qualifying medical need may be GST free, and NDIS funding may apply. Ask us before you budget.

Send us a few photos and the height of the rise, and we will give you a quote for your home.

Common questions

More answers on our FAQ page.

Are some lifts GST exempt?

Yes. Under current Australian Tax Office (ATO) rulings, certain lifts may qualify for GST exemption when they are designed and installed specifically to assist people with limited mobility or disabilities.

Lifts that comply with Australian Standards AS1735 Parts 14, 15, 16, and 17, which cover low-rise platform lifts, stair lifts, and vertical transport solutions for people with disabilities, are generally GST-free when supplied for personal use by someone with a qualifying medical condition.

To be eligible, you will need to provide either:
A medical certificate or statement from a registered health professional confirming that the lift is required to assist with mobility, or
Documentation verifying that the lift is being installed for disability access in accordance with accessibility requirements.

At Aussie Lifts, many of our residential and accessibility products are designed to meet these standards, making them eligible for GST exemption. Our team can guide you through the process and supply the necessary documentation to support your claim.

This exemption can represent significant savings while ensuring your home or building remains safe, accessible, and compliant with Australian mobility standards.

Do you install external lifts?

Yes. Aussie Lifts specialises in external lift installations, and our products are specifically designed and engineered to perform in Australia's tough outdoor conditions.

Our external lifts feature a modular aluminium shaft structure that is engineered and certified for cyclonic wind conditions up to C3, making them ideal for installations across all regions, including coastal and high-wind zones. The durable aluminium construction offers excellent corrosion resistance, ensuring long-term reliability and minimal maintenance.

Because our lifts are pre-constructed and modular, they can be craned into position and installed in as little as one day, dramatically reducing site disruption and construction time. This makes them a perfect choice for schools, commercial sites, modular buildings, and mining camps where speed, safety, and durability are essential.

Our Phoenix, Gemini and Orion lifts are designed and built in our Brisbane factory, and every lift we supply is AS1735 compliant, with the flexibility to customise cabin size, finishes and access points to suit your site layout.

If you are looking for a fast, weather-resistant, and fully compliant lift solution, Aussie Lifts' external modular systems are the proven choice for both residential and commercial applications.

How long does it take to install a lift?

The length of time it takes to install a lift depends on the type of lift. Generally, the installation process can take between 2-5 days.

Can you quote from my plans?

Yes. At Aussie Lifts, we can provide an accurate quote directly from your building plans. Simply send us your architectural or design drawings, and our experienced team will review them to identify the most suitable lift model, size, and configuration for your project.

As part of our service, we also offer free engineering drawings that can be shared with your architect, builder, or engineer to help integrate the lift design seamlessly into your plans. These detailed drawings include shaft dimensions, pit and headroom requirements, and electrical specifications to ensure everything fits perfectly before construction begins.

One important detail we always discuss is your Finished Floor Level (FFL). This is the final height of your completed floor surface, including tiles, carpet, or timber. Accounting for FFL ensures your lift floor sits perfectly level with the surrounding floor, resulting in a smooth and professional installation.

Whether your project is residential, commercial, or accessibility-based, our team will guide you through every stage, from quoting and design to final installation, ensuring your lift fits flawlessly into your space.
